← ALL MEETUPS
20 MAY 2026
Sentry, Vienna 6:30 PM 3 TALKS

For the second meetup, we went to outer space - kind of. We got a tour of a dev setup that involves coding in VR (yes, with a headset on), heard how a “submarine” side project led to data visualizations proving that parked cars in Vienna cause tram delays, and discovered why getting a new emoji approved is way more political than anyone expected. People drew their own emoji proposals. The food was entirely veggie and vegan - and not a single person complained. That felt like its own little victory.

THE TALKS

01

My ongoing quest to code in VR

SPEAKER Andreas Taranetz
Virtual monitors, Neovim in VR, VS Code running on Termux. The search for the perfect dev setup and the rabbit hole he's stuck in.
02

Net-zero submarines

SPEAKER David Jablonski
How a casual Sunday side project accidentally became an NGO, how to spark joy in the midst of ecological collapse and why submarines are our superpower.
03

You can't say that (yet)

SPEAKER Sigrid Huemer
The surprisingly political, occasionally criminal, totally absurd process of getting a new emoji approved.
